General Purpose of the Position:

Team Leaders are accountable for adhering to all health, safety, environmental, and quality programs and policies for IGS. They are responsible for, and actively manage IGS field services personnel with a goal of building and maintaining skills and abilities of the assigned team members. They provide feedback to IGS management team regarding safety, quality, project incentives and technical training needs. Team Leaders support IGS strategic growth objectives through execution of quality projects that directly impact the scalability and efficacy of IGS.

Work will be performed under the direction of the Project Superintendent or Project Manager assigned for each specific project. Team Leaders act as a liaison to the Project Superintendent on all matters related to safety, timeline, identification of additional work and upsell opportunities. This role is akin to being a Captain on a team in team sports, meaning, the captain is also one of the players, and is in the game with their team.

This position is for a Team Leader - field jetting, undertaking in situ High Pressure (HP) Hydro Blasting and Ultra-High Pressure (UHP) Hydro Blasting utilizing industry standard equipment as well as patented IGS Tube Tech robotics and equipment. The position requires ± 50% international travel and must be able to work in Oil and Gas facilities.

When not assigned to a project the individual will be responsible for repair and maintenance of the equipment in the IGS Africa facility located in Industria, Johannesburg. Individuals must adhere to all health, safety, environmental, and quality programs and policies of IGS.

This position will also perform work for other IGS product lines as requested, training will be provided for these tasks.

  • Work safely, ensuring both yourself and your team perform all activities in accordance with both IGS and customer site specific safety requirements.
  • Be in the game, work “shoulder-to-shoulder” with your team to maximize their productivity and quality. To the extent your team is operating safely and efficiently, be prepared to pick up a jetting hose and perform work yourself.
  • Provide effective communication and reporting of project related information to the Project Superintendent and other teams to support the goal of providing a superior customer service from IGS
  • Consistently review and adjust technician workflow to improve production activities that make your assigned team successful.
  • Produce a high-quality work that exceeds project specification, quality control standards and IGS SOP’s (standard operating procedures)
  • Produce uniform cleaning to minimum specification.
  • Strive to identify and report potential improvements that result in improved efficiency regarding consumable usage, abrasives, wire, and supplies.
  • Always conduct yourself in a professional manner through personal adherence and the use of IGS values (the IGS Way)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Safety

  • Report near misses, correct unsafe actions and activities
  • Prevent injuries by stopping unsafe actions
  • Provide safety training to team members
  • Perform daily safety observations
  • Complete Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)
  • Be able to execute lockout tagout (LOTO) and/ or permitting procedures
  • Be able to deliver first aid and/ or CPR if such is necessary
  • Adhere to and enforce all company, client and government regulations for safety and environmental controls

Technical – Other

  • Setting up of industry standard Hydro Blast Equipment and Tube Tech Robotics.
  • Operating industry standard and Tube Tech equipment per IGS SOP’s.
  • Repair and maintenance of Tube Tech Equipment per IGS SOP’s
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and make repairs when possible
  • Perform routine equipment upkeep and maintenance operations
  • Understand the Operation of heavy equipment – forklift, generator, compressor, dryer, welding packs and other general equipment

Technical – Quality Control

  • Use of industry standard measuring equipment for Jetting
  • Ensure that the correct operations/spray parameters are used and maintained per ITP
  • Calibrate equipment as needed
  • Review ITP with the Project Superintendent and/or with the client prior to start of any work.
  • Ensure that at the end of each process stage/phase, the customer and/or external inspectors approve and sign off the quality ITP, and only after their approval the next stage/phase shall be carried out.
  • Execute final sign-off of work and QCP completion
  • Promote effective quality control communication
  • Perform initial surface condition inspection
  • Interpret maps and drawings
  • Complete final inspections
  • Maintain records of work completed on shift and per UOP to allow for mapping. This information must be provided to the project superintendent daily at the end of shift. This shall include areas blasted, Jetted, initial inspection and final inspection performed.

Work Ethic – General Site

  • Possess and demonstrate a high level of skill in all areas of the work being performed
  • Pass all necessary trainings provided by IGS and customer’s requirements
  • Inspire team to exceed quality control standards
  • Spends minimum of 70% of time inside or available at the confined space monitoring, coaching, and assisting as team members perform their assigned tasks. If this is not possible such as small O&G vessels, the expectation is to spend this time at the manhole to support the team.

Teamwork – General

  • Provide mentorship and training to team members
  • Take initiative action in supporting team goals and assignments
  • Aid others in completion of tasks

Teamwork – Site Management

  • Assist in equipment setup and tear down as well as site coordination
  • Upkeep daily project documents
  • Perform toolbox talks, evaluations, and progress management
  • Monitor and report replenishment needs for materials inventory
  • Define and monitor progression of work scope
  • Assign tasks to team members
  • Know and understand where and which tasks are ongoing as assigned to their teams

Standard Operating Procedures

  • Drive compliance to relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)
  • Propose changes to SOP’s

Administrative Duties

  • Perform and deliver evaluations of all team members upon completion of projects, evaluation paperwork shall not be done whilst on site and shall be done after leaving site or when returning home
  • Assist in developing lessons learned upon project completion
  • Participate in mandatory meetings, dates and times may vary but will include Weekly Operations meeting, Weekly Scheduling Meeting, Pre and Post Project meetings
  • Attend and pass professional development training courses as designated by the company
  • Disseminate information to assigned team members on a weekly basis regarding schedules and other pertinent company information published during meetings
  • Code and submit expense reports monthly

Non-Project duties/time

  • Report to designated office or assignment as instructed by your direct manager
  • Maintain and be accountable for company issued equipment. (Elcometer etc.)

Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Candidates should have the following technical skills.
    • A clear understanding of the Hydro Blasting process.
    • Track record of operating Hydro Blast equipment safely and effectively.
    • Clear understanding of site-specific requirements.
    • Ability to repair and maintain equipment during operation.
    • Ability to inspect and identify unsafe conditions.
  • Must

  • Experience in Oil and Gas industry.
  • Ability to meet customer pre-access requirements such as occupational health examinations, training requirements, drug screens, background searches, etc.
  • Additional Preferences:
    • Having mechanical abilities, welding, and fabrication experience a plus but not a requirement, occasional fabrication will be required.
    • Be able to obtain training required to perform tasks associated with warehouse operations i.e., Forklift Operator Certification, Bridge Crane Operator Certification.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Effort/Working Conditions:

  • This is primarily an IGS Africa office-based position.
    • Flexibility is required including overtime to meet seasonal or other peak workload demands
  • ± 50% of international Travel
  • The job is performed in a challenging environment in various client facilities which includes but are not limited to oil and gas refineries.
  • Difficult working conditions characterized by long hours with 12-hour shifts
  • Must be physically able to move in and out of confined spaces and work on heights
  • Some travel required to other office locations and customer sites in support of operational needs.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Experience
    • 3-5 Years of hydro blast experience and,
      • 2-5 Years of lead technician or,
      • 1-3 years of team leadership
  • Experience in the Oil and Gas industry.
  • Experience with Hydro blasting Equipment repair and maintenance
